John B. “Jack” Niday, Jr. was a native Houstonian, having grown up and lived in southeast Houston all of his life. By profession, a ship pilot, Jack began an ambulance service in 1959 to occupy his off time, which soon grew to be the largest ambulance service in the area. In 1961, he opened the first Niday Funeral Home in conjunction with the ambulance service. The Houston Fire Department eventually took over ambulance services for the city in the early 60s which prompted him to phase out the ambulance service, donating a fully equipped ambulance to the City of Pearland. Jack then concentrated on the funeral homes, at one point owning seven funeral homes and three cemeteries in the Houston and Pearland area.

Phillip Peevey is a lifelong resident of Pearland and has remained active in the community. He has always been civic-minded, working through college at the Pearland Police Department, Niday-South Park Funeral Home, and Pearland ISD. After graduating, he worked as a cost engineer before entering the funeral business.

In 2000, Phillip and Jack opened our current location to continue serving the South Belt, Pearland, Friendswood, and Pasadena area communities. The funeral home was renamed Peevey Funeral & Cremation after Jack passed away, honoring his request to retire his name.
