William Asa Bates, Jr. was born on November 10, 1943, in Houston, Texas, to William Asa Bates, Sr. and Lydia Arana Bates. Bill passed to his Heavenly home on January 18, 2023, at the age of 79.

Bill's father made a career serving in the Air Force which meant that Bill lived in many places during his childhood, including Japan and England. During his High School years, Bill participated in the ROTC Battle Group and was part of the Battalion Staff at Jefferson Davis High School in Houston. Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves 1964-1970. Once a Marine, always a Marine!

Later in life, Bill enjoyed selling instrumentation to the chemical plants and refineries.Bill's true passion was flying his Cessna 172. He also was fond of classic cars, World War II movies, Johnny Cash, and his beloved Corgi, Tater Tot. Bill was a member of Sagemont Church.

Bill is survived by his wife of ten years, Beverly Bates, his son Kevin Bates, Kevin's girlfriend Sondra Morris, brother-in-law Richard Hibbard, step son Kurtis Hickle, step daughter Kristina Puma and husband Michael. Predeceased in death are his father, William Asa Bates, Sr., mother Lydia Arana Bates, sister Barbara Hibbard, and daughter Kimberly Bates.

Visitation will be held at Peevey Funeral Home, Monday, January 30, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77060.
