Wanda Nell (Thornton) Steel was born April 27, 1936, in Houston, Texas. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 1, 2026, in College Station, Texas, at the age of 90.

At just 16 years old, she married the love of her life, Albert "Buddy" Steel, turning 17 the very next day. Together, they shared a beautiful, devoted marriage for 63 years, until Buddy's passing. Their love, faith, and partnership were the foundation of the family they built. Her family was everything to her and will remain her lasting legacy.

Wanda was a loving mother to her three sons, an amazing grandmother to her six grandchildren, and an even better great-grandmother to her three great-grandchildren. She loved them all so much.

Throughout her life, Wanda was deeply rooted in her faith. She was actively involved in every church she attended, faithfully serving in many ways and boldly living out her love for Christ. She shared her talents as a pianist and organist at several of those churches. Her faith was not just something she spoke about; it was something she lived—reflected in her kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to others.

Wanda was the founder of My Flooring America, as it is known today. In 1972, she started a business in a small building in Seabrook, Texas, as Wanda's Interiors. She later changed the name to Buddy's Carpets and Wanda's Interiors when her husband joined her in the business. She and Buddy were both registered interior designers in the state of Texas and worked with many clients for more than 30 years on remodeling and decorating projects in the Clear Lake area. Several clients also brought her to places such as Dallas to decorate their new homes. She was an amazing designer and businesswoman—a pioneer for women-owned businesses early on.

Wanda is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert "Buddy" Steel; her son, John Steel; her brothers, David Thornton and Waymen Thornton; and Mark and Kelly's daughter Leanne.

She is survived by her sons Mark Steel and his wife, Kelly, and their children Justin, Austin, Evan, and Michael; and Scott Steel and his wife, Lori, and their children Ashley and her husband, Seadon, along with their children Keagan, Kyleigh, and Kinsleigh (with Kaycen on the way); Kyle and his wife, Katelyn; Ryan and his wife, Elizabeth; and Bryce and his fiancée, Chanel.

While her family deeply mourns her passing, they rejoice in the promise of eternal life, knowing that Wanda is now reunited with Buddy and her son, John, and is resting in the presence of her Savior. "Well done, good and faithful servant!" (Matthew 25:23)

The service for Wanda will be held at Peevey Funeral Home, Friday, May 8th at 11:30am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
