Verna Fay "Nanny" Hogan, 93, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022 in Pasadena, Texas surrounded by her family. She was born on October 31, 1929 to George T. and Verna Duren in Kennard, Texas. She graduated from Glover High School where she met her husband, Tommy Jack Hogan. They married in 1949 and had four children. They raised their family in Pasadena, Texas. Verna worked many years for an employment agency and helped a few of her children and other family members obtain jobs. She also worked as a receptionist for Dr. Doncaster (Pediatrician) and Dr. Weatherly (Dentist). Verna was an active member of the Shell Retirement Organization. She often volunteered her time and served the community through a Shell program called SERVE, where she helped with Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. Verna was an avid painter and has many works of art to show for it. She also enjoyed reading, cooking (she made the best fried chicken), sewing, and traveling all over the world with Jack, including a 28-day European cruise. She had an infectious laugh and loved spending time with her friends and family.

Verna is survived by her four children: Brenda Spain and her husband Ronnie; Susan Ivens and her husband Max; Terry Hogan and his wife Georgeann; and Tammy Bowers. Grandchildren and their spouses: Michael (Dorrie), Brian, Jason (Cristy), Laura, Rachel (Jarod), Ronnie (Cheryl), Regina (Duy), Kelcey (Robbie), Jennifer (Keith), and Caitlin (Tom). Great-grandchildren: Xavier, Terrel, Alexa, Caleb, Maddie, Sydney, Sarah, Cason, Kennedy, Jackson, Triston, Mallory, Ashlyn, Shay, Reece, Sophie, Hallie, Jack, Hogan, Zoe and great-great-granddaughter, Camourra. She is also survived by four siblings: Doris Alderman, Wayne Duren, Jimmy Duren, and Butch Duren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Tommy Jack Hogan of 56 years and Joe Baumbach of 12 years; grandson Travis Jack "TJ" Hogan; parents George T. and Verna Duren; and sisters Colleen Moore and Virginia Sherer.

Verna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

The family will have a Celebration of Life at 3:00pm Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, Houston 77089.
