On March 5, 2024, Velva (Vi) Marie Cooper passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family as she entered the presence of God. Her pain was no more, her body made whole, and a glorious reunion took place as she was greeted by family and friends that had gone before her.

Vi was born in Freedom, Oklahoma, on the 17th of May 1942, to Elvin and Alberta Sample. She was the third of four children. Growing up she was a very adventurous child and into sports. In 1966 she became a resident of Pasadena, Texas where she married and raised her family. After 29 years of service, she retired from the Deer Park Shell Refinery, where she was also a member of both the Shell Refinery Historical and Deer Park Historical Societies. She was a long-time member and volunteer of First Baptist Church of Pasadena, where she served faithfully in many areas of the church. She always had the perfect encouraging words to help others feel God's peace.

The evidence of her love for the Lord was made known in the way she lived and treated other people, along with how she deeply cared for her family. She loved being a mother and grandmother. To know her was to love her. Merciful and wise, kind and funny. She was a true treasure.

She is survived by her sister Boni Witt, her brother Stanley Sample, her son Kevin Cooper and his wife Jackie, her son Randall Cooper and his wife Kellie. Her grandchildren; Stephanie Mobley, Christopher Charlesworth and his wife Jimmie, Rylie Cooper, Reese Cooper and Kennedy Cooper. Her great-grandchildren; Madyson Charlesworth, Chase Mobley, Landon Charlesworth, Garyson Charlesworth and Owen Charlesworth. Also including her nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Elvin and Alberta Sample, her brother Eldon Sample, former spouse Jim Cooper, nieces Lisha Witt and Karen Simon.

The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church Pasadena, Monday March 11, at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park.
