It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Terry Groff on Sunday, August 27th, 2023, at his home in Pearland, surrounded by family. He was 78 years old. Terry's presence in our lives was a source of warmth and wisdom, and his memory will forever be etched in our hearts.

Terry was born on November 19th, 1944, to Terrence and Anna Groff of Houston.  Upon graduating in 1963 from Milby High School, he attended the University of Texas before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged in 1969 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.

While home on leave during the summer of 1967, Terry and Carol were convinced by friends to go on a date. They married the following year, sharing a bond that served as an example of unwavering love and partnership for 55 years.  Terry and Carol navigated the journey of life side by side, casting an enduring glow of inspiration upon all fortunate enough to witness their remarkable love story.

As a father, he poured his heart into anything Brian was involved in, guiding and instilling in him values of empathy, resilience, and the importance of family. He enjoyed his involvement with the Sagemont-Beverly Hills Little League and spent countless hours with Brian at the Dobie FFA Project Barn. He was a proud "Aggie Dad" and rarely missed a fishing trip with his son.

Terry began his career at Houston Lighting & Power in February 1970, and after 29 years of service, he retired from CenterPoint Energy (formerly HL&P) in 1999 as the Engineering & Distribution Supervisor for South Houston. He thoroughly enjoyed the energy industry and the people he worked with and met along the way. Later in his career, he became involved in the Pearland Rotary and served on the Executive Board for the South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce.

Terry pursued numerous passions and interests in his spare time. He was well known for his attention to detail and craftsmanship, especially when restoring antique furniture. Saltwater fishing never took a backseat to other hobbies, as he spent as much time on the water as possible. Later in his senior years, he picked up pickleball (before it was cool) and excelled in the competitive senior circuit. He often shared his knowledge and enthusiasm for his many hobbies with those around him, especially how to properly cast a fishing rod.

Terry had an innate ability to connect with people, leaving a lasting impression. He brought an enduring sense of wisdom and guidance to all those fortunate enough to know him. He was a man of great integrity, kindness, and compassion, leaving a lasting mark on the lives he touched. Terry's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. "Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and very dear."

Terry was preceded in death by his parents Terrence Raymond and Anna Lee Groff and leaves behind his wife, Carol; son, Brian and wife Jaime; sister, Jerry Ann Gregory; brother-in-law, Robert Lee Moulden; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A visitation with the family celebrating Terry's life will take place on Saturday, September 9th, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Rd, Houston, TX 77089.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in memory of Terry Groff.
