Susan Kaye Ivens, 71, peacefully passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, surrounded by her family.  She was born on September 18, 1954, to Tommy Jack and Verna Hogan in Houston, Texas.  She graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in 1973.

Susan was happily married to her devoted husband, Max Ivens, for 46 years. Together, they raised their three children and made their home in Deer Park, Texas.

Susan graduated from nursing school in 1977 and became a licensed Registered Nurse. She dedicated her life to caring for others, working in multiple organizations throughout her 41-year nursing career. Her roles included serving as a pediatric ICU nurse at Texas Children's Hospital, Hemodialysis Manager at Diagnostic Clinic of Houston, and nurse at Houston Ear Nose and Throat Specialists. She ended her career as a school nurse in Pasadena ISD and retired in May 2017. Susan proudly maintained her Registered Nurse License through continuing education courses.

Susan was an avid reader and especially enjoyed crime thrillers including books by Harlan Coben, John Grisham, and Tom Clancy.  She and Max loved traveling and shared many memorable vacations with family and friends. Snow skiing trips to Colorado and Utah, along with vacations to Hawaii were among their favorite destinations.  Susan loved all sports and cheered for her favorite teams including the Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills, the 1980s and 1990s Houston Rockets, and the Houston Astros. Football held a special place in her heart, and she enjoyed talking about it right up until the day she passed.

More importantly, Susan was a devoted Christian. She read her Bible daily and had a close, personal relationship with Jesus. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Pasadena for 46 years. Susan and Max regularly attended worship services and were actively involved in their connection group, Prayer Warriors.

She is survived by her husband, Max Ivens; her children, Jason Smith and wife Cristy, Ronnie Ivens and wife Cheryl, and Kelcey Davis and husband Robbie; her five beloved grandchildren Cason Smith, Triston Smith, Mallory Davis, Ashlyn Davis, and Reece Ivens; her sisters Brenda Spain, Tammy Oxford and husband Rusty; her brother Terry Hogan and wife Georgeann; along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy Jack and Verna Hogan, and brother-in-law, Ronnie Spain.

Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at First Baptist Church Pasadena, located at 7500 Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena, Texas 77505.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Susan Ivens may be made to First Baptist Church Pasadena- Beyond These Walls.
