Shirley Agnes Hines, age 86, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024.

Shirley was born October 11, 1937, in Staunton, Il, to Edward Casper Hodapp and Anna Cordelia Garde. She grew up surrounded by numerous siblings and farm animals, including, briefly, a two-headed cow. After graduating from Staunton High School, she joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a stenographer and secretary. She left the FBI in 1963 and raised three children. Her work, and later, her family took her all over the world, from Alaska to Italy, where she accumulated a wealth of stories and recipes to share throughout her life.

Shirley eventually settled in Houston, primarily for its proximity to the Houston Astros. She loved sewing, cooking, and watching baseball while sewing or cooking. She was exceedingly generous with her friends and family; her guests were always well-fed, and her grandchildren developed a staggeringly unrealistic perception of the ease of gambling by frequently "winning" her money in games.

She is predeceased by her brother, John Hodapp; sisters Margarite Ayuso, June Fix, and Mary Jennings; sister-in-law Betty Hodapp; and brothers-in-law Wilfred Jennings, James Bucher, and Eugene Fix.

Shirley's dedication to her family and her commitment to helping others will be lovingly remembered by her children: Julie Levinson (Brian), Will Hines (Brenda), and Cristel Hines. Her affinity for milkshakes and her frequent swearing will be remembered by her beloved grandchildren, Thomas Lasater (Maria), Josh Levinson, Emily Levinson, and Drew Levinson. Shirley is also survived by her dear siblings, Kathy Gross, Rita Forneris, and Betty Bucher, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will welcome friends at 2pm, Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, Houston, TX 77089.
