With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sam, age 60, after a month-long illness on September 2, 2021. Sam was the first-born child of Samuel Ray Eaves and Pauline Stone Eaves on August 12, 1961, in Houston, Texas. He was a lifelong Houston resident, grew up and attended schools in the Southbelt area and graduated from Dobie High School, Class of '79. While in high school, Sam lettered in both Varsity Football and Track.

Not long after high school Sam decided to follow his father's lead and pursue a career as a Houston Firefighter. He joined the Houston Fire Department in 1982 and later joined the Southeast Volunteer Fire Department in 1992. Sam retired as a Senior Captain/Safety Officer from HFD in 2017, after 35 years of service and was an active member of SEVFD proudly serving the Sagemont community for 29 years until his passing.

In his adult life he had interests in photography, baseball, all genres of music, and trying his hand at guitar. He also loved any water related activities including boating, skiing and fishing. He enjoyed nothing more than a weekend getaway to the family property in Madison County.

He was a devoted and loving brother, father and grandfather. Not only a brother, but a best friend to his sisters. On and off the field or on the sidelines, he was always a proud Dad. Upon the arrival of his grandsons, he was so excited to be Sampa.

Sam enjoyed the simple things in life such as a big glass of sweet tea, a great laugh, and time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his son Kyle (Crystal) and grandson Kenden of Pasadena, son Kody (Allison) and grandson Kean of Pasadena and son Kole of Pasadena. Other survivors include sisters, Patsy Eaves of Houston, and Sheila Eaves and daughters, Zoe, Sara, Emily and Haylie Cortez of Houston. Included are extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2021, from 6pm until 8pm at Peevey Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 10am, also at Peevey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rock Prairie Cemetery, Madison County at 3pm.
