Robert Wesley Tyer was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston, Texas, on November 10, 1937 and was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 28, 2025. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of fifteen years, Loretta Maxine Jones, by his parents, Clennis and Edith Tyer, and by his older brother, Ben Tyer.

Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara, and their three daughters and sons-in-law: Teresa Lynn Cowey and husband Paul; Pamela Lea Perkins and husband, Jim; and Lauren Elizabeth Tyer. He is also survived by sister-in-law, June Tyer, and brother, Clayton Tyer and wife, Jo. In addition to these, Robert is survived by 11 grandchildren: Hunter Hollis and wife, Jennifer; Zachary Cowey; Morgan Wilborn and husband, Sam; Meredith Cowey and fiancée Brady Toler; Colby Malone and fiancée, Chelsey Dungan; London Perkins; Colton Perkins; Garrett Cowey; Carter Malone; Sam Caffey; and McKenna Malone; and 3 great grandchildren: Wyatt Wilburn, Elizabeth Wilborn, and Nora Toler. Robert's surviving nephews and niece include Curtis Tyer and wife, Durinda; Clennis Tyer and wife, Pam; Craig Tyer and wife, Debbie; Travis Tyer and wife, Milena Blanes; and Charlotte Tyer and partner, Adam Fortin; Jason Wheeler and wife Britni; Michael Wheeler; and Dubby Wheeler.

"Popsie," as Robert was known to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, loved being around family as they celebrated birthdays, graduations, weddings, and especially family reunions in the Country.  He and Barbara often hosted the whole gang at their country home, where swimming, three-wheel riding, potato guns, homemade ice cream, and fireworks were the order of the day, and sitting by the bonfire and telling stories were the order of the night. Robert always had everything in "ship shape" for everyone to enjoy.  Memories were made that will never be forgotten.

Robert, like his father Clennis, could design, build, and repair anything.  He was also extremely adventurous; he had his pilot's and motorcycle licenses. After his girls were "out of the nest" he and Barbara enjoyed the freedom of flying to the Country (Timpson, TX), riding to the hill country, and Big Bend.  Robert was proud of his completing the "Challenge Ride", sponsored by the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, which challenges the rider to complete 1,000 miles in 24 hours, while adhering to the strict guidelines set forth by the "Iron Butt Association". These members are known as the "World's Toughest Motorcycle Riders."

Of course, when he arrived home, he had some trouble walking for several days. Robert often traveled with a small group of his friends; one of the most memorable trips he made was from San Francisco to Canada and back. That trip was on his "bucket list" for him & Barbara to do someday but definitely in the comfort of their car.

Robert worked at the Goodyear Chemical Plant for 42 years. He was head of Maintenance & Engineering, a member of the Top 10 Club, and a member of the Plant Operating Committee. After his retirement, Robert & Barbara built their "dream home" in Timpson, TX,  where they continued to host family and friends. Being members of First Baptist Church, Center, TX, offered them the opportunity to make many new friends, and though their time there was brief, they were blessed to be members of a small church and community that loved and encouraged them. Upon their return to Pasadena, they became members of Sagemont Church where they have continued to be loved and encouraged during some challenging times.

Along with the support of our family and friends, the caregivers at The Park at Bay Area, the home health caregivers at Home Instead, the hospice caregivers at Choice and Living Hope, our Jesus has been our abiding friend, comforter, and guide that has carried us through this valley and led us all the way. Proverbs 3:5-6

The family will receive friends, Thursday, March 6, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00am., the service will begin at 11:00am. in the chapel of First Baptist Church Pasadena; 7500 Fairmont Pkwy. Pasadena, TX 77505. Interment will follow at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery; 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, TX  77521
