Robert Francis Palmer age 91, died March 16, 2022 in Clear Lake City, Houston. He was born on July 15, 1930 to Elizabeth and Thomas A. Palmer in Burlington, New Jersey. At age seven he witnessed the explosion and crash of the German dirigible Hindenburg in Lakehurst, New Jersey. He graduated from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, New Jersey and then entered the service and served with the United States Marines in Korea in 1951 during the Korean War, where he received two Presidential Unit Citations from the United States and Korean Presidents.

Bob went to college on the Korean GI Bill, and upon receiving his Bachelor's degree, went to work for Philco Ford as an Aerospace Engineer. While employed at Philco Ford, he was selected and received their Community Service Award. After 25 years of employment, he retired from Philco Ford and taught Math in Public School for a year. He then went to work for Rockwell International as an Aerospace Engineer. While employed at Rockwell, Bob was awarded the NASA Silver Snoopy Award, the NASA Manned Space Flight Awareness Award, and the Rockwell Community Service Award.

Bob was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church in Clear Lake City, having served as an Usher for thirty-five years. He served for thirty-five years in the Clear Lake City Volunteer Fire Department rising to the rank of Chief, before retiring from the fire service in October 1997. In 2001, he was inducted into his high school "Hall of Fame" for his 35 years of service in the aerospace industry and his service to his community. Bob was an avid square and round dancer, and served as President of the Houston Square & Round Dance Council in 1972-73. In 1994, he was voted as Square Dancer of the Year, for his promotion of square and round dancing by his peers. He served two terms in office as President of the Texas State Camping Squares from 2001 through 2003.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Palmer and his loving wife Jacqueline Palmer. He is survived by his son Robert F. Palmer II and his wife Karen and daughter Sidney; his son Michael and his wife Molly: and his daughter Melodee Scallan and her husband Michael and grandson Conner.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00am Monday, March 28, 2022, at Peevey Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Houston National Cemetery.
