On January 4th, 2024, Rita Louise Schenk Hasselfeld Lusignan passed away in the comfort of her home after a lengthy, courageous, hard fight with cancer.  Her sister, Ann Haffner was by her side. She attended Catholic schools from kindergarten through college as Catholic education was important to her parents. In college she majored in Spanish and minored in French, education and psychology at Fontbonne University in St. Louis. Rita taught high school Spanish for 35 years. She taught in St. Louis, Mt. Carmel in Houston, and for nineteen years in the Pearland ISD. in Texas.

Rita was an active member of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church for 40 years. She volunteered in the office, sang in the choir, and was active with the Catholic Daughters and Sunshiners. Her faith gave witness to many.

Rita enjoyed traveling with friends and family, snorkeling, and volunteering. She participated in two pet therapy groups with her dogs, visiting hospitals and care homes. She was an enthusiastic dog lover. Friends knew they could call on her with any need. She was most kind and compassionate.

She is survived by two sons, Eric Michael Hasselfeld (and wife Kelly) and Robert George Lusignan (and wife Hahn) and granddaughter, Katlyn Hasselfeld, 3 siblings and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church on January 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. A rosary will precede the Mass at 10:15 a.m.
