Reynaldo "Rey" Tamayo Vendivel, born on May 7, 1944, in Gapan, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, passed away peacefully at his home on May 31, 2024. He was 80 years old.

Rey was born during World War II, when much of his family ranch was lost—an event that set the rest of his life in motion. Along with his siblings Rene and Ester, his early years were spent helping his mother, Luisa Tamayo Vendivel, run several successful family businesses in Manilla. At age 18, Rey channeled his passion for engineering into a career with the US Navy, where he proudly earned his US citizenship and served several extended tours of duty with the SeaBees and on the USS Waddell before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1982 after 21 years of service. Not one to remain idle for long, Rey then embarked on a second career with Continental Airlines, from which he retired after 25 years in 2009.

Known for his love of singing and dancing, Rey also had a reputation for being intelligent, handsome, and a sharp dresser. But he was best known as a generous soul who was always willing to help those in need.

Rey is survived by his wife of 7 years, Dorita A. Vendivel; his children, Michelle Goebel and Donirey Vendivel; his grandchildren, Jeremiah, Rachel, Regan, and Asher; his sister,  Rebecca Ester Palor; and his aunt, Maria Lucia Feliciano Vendivel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Romeo and Luisa Tamayo Vendivel, and his brother, Rene Vendivel.

While Rey will be dearly missed by many, his legacy of love and generosity will live forever in the hearts of those who knew him best.

The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 22,  at 10:00am., with visitation one hour prior to the service at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Rd, Houston, TX.
