Refugio "Kido" D. Zapata Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and well-known pianist and musician from Houston, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Kido lived a life filled with family, faith, friendship, and music. A remarkably gifted pianist, he became known and respected throughout Texas and across the United States for his extraordinary musical talent. His gift at the piano earned him the admiration and respect of fellow musicians and audiences far beyond his beloved hometown of Houston.

Kido had a special ability to bring people together through music. Whether performing for an audience, playing alongside fellow musicians, or sharing his gift with family and friends, the piano was an important part of his life and the legacy he leaves behind.

His music was more than entertainment—it was an expression of who he was. Through the keys of a piano, Kido created memories, friendships, and moments of happiness that will remain forever in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have heard him play.

Above all, Kido's greatest legacy was his family. He was the proud father of eight children and was blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry his memory, love, and family traditions forward for generations to come.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Refugio "Poppy" Zapata (Odilia); Tommy Ralph Zapata (Lupe);Raymundo Zapata (Mary Lou);Ronny Zapata (Aurelia); John Paul Zapata ( Monica);Cynthia Ann Zapata ; Dora Guerra ; and Juanita Stella Jones (Gary). He is also survived by his sister, Rosie Zapata; his brother, Johnathon Zapata; as well as his beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, fellow musicians, and many friends.

Kido will be remembered for the music he shared, the lives he touched, and the love he had for his family. Although the piano keys may now be silent, the music and memories he created will continue to live in the hearts of his family, friends, fellow musicians, and all who were touched by his talent.

The viewing will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2026 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm with the Rosary prayed at 6:00pm, at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Rd.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2405 Navigation Boulevard, Burial to follow Mass at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street.
