Peggy Jo Wheeler passed away August 31, 2026, at the age of 85, a number she never dreamt of reaching. The unexpected years were given to enriching the lives of those she held dear and to companionship with her beloved husband, Ed.

Born Peggy Jo Allen on June 25, 1941, in North Carolina, she moved as a girl to Pasadena, Texas, where she lived for the remainder of her life. She met Ed at the age of 15; their lives remained intertwined for seven decades. They lived by one another, for one another, and through one another, and together shaped a life with the family they leave behind. She lost Ed this February, and his passing left a void that could not be filled.

Peggy worked for many years as a legal secretary, first for Don Smith of Baytown, whose virtues as a boss she never ceased to extol, then alongside Ed building a practice that served the communities of Pasadena and Baytown into the 21st century. She was wiser and more capable than she ever quite gave herself credit for. Her modesty was belied by the impact she had, and her love reached far beyond her immediate family. She became a second mother, second sister, and cherished friend to many, and for her own children she was a model of tenderness and care. Her spirit imparted a warmth that will be deeply missed by all who received it.

She loved books and movies, flowers, anything purple, and a good bargain—her grandchildren joked that her superpower was shopping, and here, as in matters of the heart, her efforts could be heroic. Her laugh was bright, her smile infectious, and her presence was a comfort to all who knew her.

She passed away in her home, a place she made sure people felt they belonged, under the care of her sons, Michael and Mark Wheeler, with the support of hospice. She leaves a legacy in her sons, her grandchildren Derek, Dominique, and Zoe Wheeler, and Reese Anderson, and its newest continuation, her great-grandson Andy.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, Houston, Texas.
