Patricia Ann Kolar passed away peacefully on March 15, 2024. The only child of parents, Shirley and Capt. Charles Newhard, Patsy was surrounded by love and affection from her extended family since birth. After being born in Phoenix, AZ, on September 24, 1943, she traveled to Houston with her parents at 3 weeks of age and lived the rest of her life as a "native" Houstonian. Patsy graduated from University of Houston, but prior to that attended Mt. Carmel High School and Queen of Peace Catholic School, where she met the love of her life and husband of almost 30 years, Joseph, in the first grade.

Patsy and Joseph were married in 1963 and moved to the Sagemont area in 1969 where they raised their three children Shirley, Stephen, and Julie. They were parishioners at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church where Pat served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. She was also involved with the Stuchberry and Frazier PTAs, the Sagemont-Beverly Hills Little League, and the Dobie Lariaette Booster Club.

In 1975, Pat started teaching fourth grade at the newly opened Frazier Elementary. In 1981, "Mrs. Kolar" as she was known to her students, moved to Thompson Intermediate where she taught math until she retired in 1998. In addition to influencing thousands of students, Pat made lifelong friends with some of her fellow teachers.

After Joe died in 1992, these friends were a constant source of adventure and support. They played bunco together and went on numerous cruises and trips all over the world. Although illness kept her from traveling for the last several years, Pat cherished all of her friendships and memories.

Pat will be dearly missed by her family including her daughters, Shirley (Wayne) Hoyer and Julie (Miles) Voss as well as her daughter-in-law, Kim Kolar, and her lifelong best friend, Camille Springer. She will be lovingly remembered by her nine grandchildren: David Hoyer, Stephanie (David) Hoyer Connolly, Lindsey Hoyer, Kate Kolar, Elizabeth Kolar, Megan Kolar, Evan Voss, Lexie Voss and Maggie Voss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley and Charles Newhard, her husband, Joseph Kolar, and her son, Stephen Kolar.

Shirley and Julie wish to thank all of the friends, neighbors, students and caregivers who have been supportive over the years, especially Susan Meche, who cared for both Pat and Granny.

A rosary will be held Thursday, April 4th, at 6:00pm with visitation immediately following until 8:00pm at Peevey Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, Friday, April 5th at 1:00 PM, interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
