Owen Walter Conerly, spent the last moments of his life with his family on September 10, 2021, joining his mother and dad in Heaven. Owen was born to Jesse and Louise Conerly, in Houston, Texas on October 22, 1937. He graduated from Milby High School in 1956, and married Norma Jean Evans on June 27, 1959.

Owen served his country proudly in the Army as a Specialist R4 for the Army Security Agency; stationed in Germany for over two years. He worked for Shell Oil Company for 36 years before he retired. Even while working a full-time job, he helped coach baseball, boy scouts, took trips with family, and entertained friends and family where you could be sure to catch him dancing. If you needed something made out of wood, you called Owen. He would draw up meticulous plans and create beautiful and long-lasting works of art.

Owen and Norma have been active members in the Milby Alumni Foundation and Owen served as president for twenty years. He was dedicated to helping the students, teachers, and administration at Milby to give them opportunities and a school they could be as proud of as he was. Over the past four years, Owen has battled stage IV Mesothelioma. With the help and support of his family and team of doctors, he exceeded expectations.

Owen will be cherished by his wife Norma; their son James Owen Conerly and wife Phoebe, and daughter Brenda Louise Fredrichsen. Amongst his most proud contributions to this world, is his love for his grandchildren, Christie Lea Potts, James Owen Conerly, Jr., Todd Morgan, Trent Morgan, Catherine Marie Andress, Jon Fredrichsen, and Jared Fredrichsen; his great- grandchildren totaling thirteen, Logan, Alexis, Aubrey, Bryce, Lorelei, Lillian, Zachary, Charlotte, Samuel, Elizabeth, Amelia, Cambrie, and Garrett (aka Buckshot). We call him "Daddy Pop."

If you needed life advice, you called Pop. If you wanted to know what was reported on in the Houston Chronicle, you called Pop. He had stories from his Army days, his year at Texas A&M, even older stories from his dad, but he was always a good listener. As a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, cousin, and friend, you will never know greater. He will be missed beyond what words can express. His legacy was that we take care of our family as he has taught us, with unconditional love, respect, and faith in "The Man Upstairs." We hope to make him proud.
