With humble acceptance of God's will, we announce the passing of Norma Jane Williams on December 2, 2023, at the age of 94.  Norma passed away peacefully: she went to sleep and woke up in the arms of Jesus.

Norma is preceded in death by her husband Lester Williams, parents Ellis and Delphine Vercher, brother Teddy Vercher, and sister Barbara Brown.

She is survived by her three children, Debra Brown, Glen Williams, and Gary Williams (and wife Pam), eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Delores McClere, Pamela Mabe, and brother Randall Vercher.

Norma was born in Campti, Louisiana on October 30, 1929, to Ellis and Delphine Vercher. In 1943, she moved to the Houston area with her family, where she met and married Lester Williams, her husband of 51 years.

She was an involved mom. From early on, she was active in school parent organizations for all three kids. If anything was needed, she was there. Norma attended Freeway Manor Baptist church for years and made sure that her children had the opportunity to learn about and meet Jesus.

Norma joined Sagemont Church in 1991, where she served in the children's ministry for many years. Norma also volunteered for over 15 years on the outpatient surgery floor of Memorial Southeast hospital. Over the 15 plus years, she volunteered over 6,000 hours. During those many hours, she touched the lives of many families.

Norma moved to Trinity Oaks Assisted Living and lived there for 11 years. She always met everyone with a smile and genuine compassion.  She never had an unkind word for anyone, no matter the circumstances. When anyone asked her how she was, there was always just one answer, "I'm fine, and how are you?".

Norma was a beautiful person, both inside and out. Her kindness was inspirational, and she made a lasting impact on many lives. She is gone from us now, but as with all believers, she is not lost. We know that the separation is temporary and we will see each other again.

Visitation will be held from 2pm until 3pm Saturday, December 9th, at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Rd. Houston, TX 77089. The celebration of life will follow at 3 pm. Interment will take place Monday, December 11th at 10 am at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
