Nina Jess Simpson (Bateman) Martin was born February 8th, 1939, in Tatum, TX and left this world December 20th, 2023, at 84 years old.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Ingrando Smith, bonus son Dwight Bateman and wife Leah. Grandchildren: Bryan Ingrando (Kelly), Erin Smith, Lacey Gartrell (John), Chip Bateman (Vanessa). Great-grandchildren Joe and Trent Ingrando, Cooper, Leah and Lucy Gartrell, Beau, AnnMarie and Walker Bateman. Nephews: Rusty Simpson (Cindy), Kelly Wayne Simpson (Neashia), and Earl Reigard. Nieces: Judy Gallier (Ed) and Melanie Zwego (Bob).

She was born to Mabel Kuykendall Simpson and Odell Simpson who preceded her in in death as well as a younger sister, Elewyn, and 3 older brothers, Bobby, Joe, and Rex Simpson. She is also preceded in death by her sons-in-law, Joe Ingrando and Ray Smith.

She spent her early years in East Texas and later moved to the Galveston Bay area. She graduated from Dickinson High School in 1956. She married in 1958 and spent many years raising kids and helping her spouse build a successful business. She was a member of Eastern Star and The United Daughters of the Confederacy Texas Division. She was a faithful Christian and member of Sagemont Baptist Church.

She had many accomplishments. She was an excellent bridge player and also looked forward to taking your money in a poker game. She was a gourmet cook spending a lot of her time in the kitchen cooking or baking. At one time, she owned her own catering company where she could plan an event, provide all the food, and decorate a cake beautifully. She was also a seamstress and made beautiful porcelain dolls, she played the piano, and she loved to dance. In addition, she was a good golfer spending a lot of time on the course with dear friends at Golfcrest Country Club. With a passion for traveling, she was always planning her next adventure and was blessed to have traveled the world during her lifetime. She was a successful commercial real estate agent and still working up to a few weeks before she left us. She was always smiling, positive, determined, and ready to have fun.

It is encouraged that you approach life like Nina did. Give it everything you've got, never give up, have fun, be positive and when you're sliding into home plate, know that you LIVED…really, really lived. She was dearly loved and is forever in our hearts.
