Morris Lee Murphy, 83, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024.  He was one of four children born to Ina Loftin Murphy and Levi Murphy on June 26, 1940, in Shepard, Texas.  In 1950 his family moved to Livingston, TX and while attending Providence Baptist Church he came to know the Lord at the age of 10.

He attended Livingston High School where he was a member of the FFA, student counsel and was in the high school band where he played the baritone.  Upon graduation from high school in 1958, he enlisted in the military.  He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1963.  While in the service he was sent to Syracuse University where he learned to speak and interpret Russian.  He was assigned to an intelligence unit and was stationed in Germany at the Berlin Wall.  After his honorable discharge from the service, he moved to Houston, Texas and started work at Southwestern Bell/AT&T.  After 37 years of work, he retired in May 2000.

He married the love of his life Stella Gassiot of Livingston, TX on February 6, 1965. After settling in the Southbelt area, they welcomed two daughters and enjoyed taking family vacations, spending time with friends, and attending church.  He had many hobbies, but his favorite was playing golf.  In addition to being a proud father, he was also a proud grandfather to three grandchildren.

Morris is survived by his, daughters, Laura Murphy and Deberah Patterson, son-in-law Patrick Patterson, grandson, Brandon Patterson, granddaughters, Ashley and Caitlyn Patterson all of Houston, TX and his sisters, Barbara Gage, of Spring, Texas and Betty Overstreet, of Livingston, Texas. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Murphy, of Houston, Texas, his parents Ina and Levi Murphy, of Livingston, Texas and his stepdad, George Cherry, of Livingston, Texas.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 8, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and the funeral is scheduled for March 9, 2024, at 3:00 pm, at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Rd, Houston, TX 77089.
