Mike Halvorsen, 92, of Pasadena, Texas, peacefully passed away on February 12, 2024. He was born to Maria de Jesus Mungia and Oscar Halvorsen on May 5, 1931, in Houston, Texas.

He attended Milby High School in Houston, Texas. Upon graduation he enlisted in the military    He proudly served his country for 18 years in the Navy, Army and Marine Reserves. While in the military he traveled the world creating vivid memories and achievements, which he would later share with others through photo albums and storytelling.  He was a noble man of integrity, goodwill and honor.

In June of 1965, he married Guadalupe Linda Barela in Houston, TX. He and Linda had 5 children, Lisa, Melinda, Michael, Edward and Amanda. They raised their family in Pasadena, TX.

While raising the family, he worked at NASA as a firefighter by day, and by night as a barber in a local barbershop near NASA. He then became an electrician with Atlantic Richfield Oil Company and retired from the company.  Mike loved to work, so in 1986 he became the "maintenance supervisor" at his church, St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church in Deer Park, TX.  There he made a lifetime of friendships with the priest, clergymen and parishioners. In 1996 he retired from the church.

He loved fishing, barbequing and watching "U.S. and Foreign War" films, not to mention his love for seafood, especially fried shrimp. He was a devout Catholic and a faithful parishioner at St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church. He was a man of his faith who never missed Sunday mass! He was always the first to lend a helping hand, no matter the situation. He was a man of integrity who was true to his word, as well as prompt and punctual.  He had a "full of life" smile on his face, come rain or shine.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He loved attending all of their musical and dance performances, sport games, graduations, birthday parties, and other special events.

Mike is preceded in death by his son, Michael Emmanuel Halvorsen.  He is survived by his wife, Linda, and their four children: Lisa Halvorsen Gregory and husband, Rodney, Melinda Halvorsen Hawkins, Edward Thomas Halvorsen and Amanda Mary Gonzalez and husband, Gilbert; His grandchildren, Madeline Jane Gregory, Jack Donavan Hawkins, Addison Fischer Gregory, Annalynn Claire Hawkins, Maximilian Jacob Halvorsen and Noah Finn Gonzalez, along with many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 8:00pm Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Peevey Funeral Home, with a rosary being prayed at 6:00pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 1:45pm at Houston National Cemetery.
