Mary Cristina Ortiz was born to Miguel C. Echauri and Francisca Flores on December 5, 1934 in Houston, Texas. She entered into God's Kingdom surrounded by family on November 5, 2021.

Mary married Sigifredo Ortiz, Sr and together they had five adoring children. She was a life long resident of Pearland, Texas. Lovingly known as Tina, Gi Gi, Grandma, Ms. Mary, Mom or Momma, she was loved by all. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was well known for her red lipstick and the red kiss marks she left on your cheek.

Mary was always dressed to impress and ready to go when anyone invited her out. You would see her down the streets of Pearland in her little white Toyota. Her favorite getaways were Bingo and the casinos. She never turned down an invitation to go to either. Her dear friend of 65 years, Sulema, would make the casino bus runs with her and together they would share over 25 years of memories of their trips. You would find a Tequila Sunrise in one hand and a slot machine lever in the other. You always knew if Mary had won or lost at Bingo. If she had won, she'd have a smile and a bag of groceries. If she had lost, she'd still have a smile and say, "I cased" along with the number she had cased on.

Mary was a strong, hardworking, selfless person. If you needed her, she was always there without hesitation. Mary loved her family and friends. There are so many memories, you could write a book.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Miguel and Francisca as well as her brothers, Miguel and Refugio Echauri. She is survived by her sister Helen "Cruz" Ortiz, her children, Pete Ortiz, Cynthia Martinez (Louie), Fred Ortiz, Jr., Laura Elton (Paul) and Charles Ortiz (Sharla), grandchildren Amanda, Joe, Marty, Julian, Charles II, Jessica, Vincent, Marissa, Kassidy, Matthew, Michael, Danielle, Brandon, and Gabriel and 18 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Martin Lopez, Julian Ortiz, Charles Ortiz, II, Vincent Ortiz, Matthew Lopez, Michael Ortiz, Brandon Ortiz, and Gabriel Ortiz. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Tovar and Evan Ortiz.

John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Visitation will be held at Peevey Funeral Home in Houston, Texas, Saturday, November 13th at 8am, service to follow at 9am, with burial at 11am at Forest Park Lawndale.
