Mark Christian Abbott was born in Burbank, California on March 12, 1967.  The second-born son of Leonard and Maria Abbott, he spent an idyllic childhood in sunny Southern California where he spent afternoons and long summer days outdoors playing street football and baseball with his siblings, learning to boogie board at the Orange County beaches near his home, riding bikes all over the city with his brother Jim, and delivering newspapers for the Orange County Register as his first job.

The Abbott family moved to Texas in 1982 when Mark was 15 years old.  While a culture shock at first, Mark learned to embrace his new hometown of Houston, Texas, where he became an avid fan of the local pro sports teams and picked up the hobby of country and western dancing.  It's also in Houston where he met the love of his life, Rachel, in 1995.   The couple were married on December 31, 1996, and Mark happily assumed the role of dad and mentor to Rachel's 7-year-old daughter, Amber. He was the greatest source of levity and joy in her childhood, and the closest friend who never missed her phone calls in adulthood. His greatest pride was becoming "Pops" to his grandson, Max. He was thrilled to take Max to his first Astros game and gift him a multi-decades worth of his collection of Hot Wheels cars.

After unexpectedly losing his wife in 2008, the hope of the resurrection, made possible through the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ, drew Mark to dedicate his life to Jehovah God and he was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on July 30, 2011.  He attended four different congregations in the area, East, Silver Lake, Pearland Parkway, and Sagemont, where he made many friends and treasured the loving bond of our Christian brotherhood.

He loved cats, fishing, listening to seventies and eighties music, and playing disc golf with his brother Jim and nephews.  Mark was described as a model employee by those he worked with.  A very conscientious person, he felt a huge amount of duty and responsibility to not only his employer but also to his family and friends.  He will always be remembered by his siblings as the brother you could always count on for help, whether that help was fixing busted water pipes, pet-sitting, changing car batteries and flat tires for his sisters, or babysitting his nieces and nephews when needed.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Maria Abbott and wife Rachel Abbott.  He will be painfully missed by his daughter Amber, son-in-law Mitch, and grandson Max Peoples; his siblings and their spouses: Crystal Kehoss, Leonard Abbott, Jr., Joel Abbott, John Abbott, James Abbott, Mary Burkes, Lydia Hardison, Lea Stewart; and he was loved as "Uncle Mark" by his nieces and nephews:  Austin Hardison, Camille Sturm, Maria Sturm, Adrian Abbott, Christian Abbott, and Gabriela Abbott.

Memorial service will be held Friday, March 7, 2025 at 6:30pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 3205 Yost Blvd in Pearland.
