It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Maria Victorina Reyes on Tuesday, June 27th, 2023. She passed in the presence of her surviving children, Rosendo Castillo, Jr.  and Guadalupe Castillo, and their father, Rosendo Castillo, Sr.

Maria was born in Nueva Esparta, El Salvador to parents Lusio Reyes and Eugenia Escobar on May 9th, 1955. Since her humble beginnings, she left an impressive mark on the lives of everyone she met. Memories that will live forever in the hearts of her children, siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends. What stands out the most about her is that her heart was full of generosity and love for everyone, no matter who they were. Maria was always willing to help and give nothing but her best. She will undoubtedly be missed and loved with the same boundless love that she always gave.

Maria went beyond being motherly; she was a mother to many. Having worked arduously to provide all that her children needed, she not only ensured that food was always on the table and that the lights were kept on at all times, she made sure to be present in life's moments when they needed her. She passionately loved her family and even helped raise many of her nieces and nephews.

Her home had always been a center for children's laughter and gathering; whether it was "base" for tag, a local arcade for tournaments, a place for teenage angst after heart-breaks, a small cinema, or a refuge for children undergoing abuse at their broken home. Maria's living room and dinner table were a haven for all who needed one. And, whether a guest was hungry or not, whether food was hot on the stove or not, she would never fail to ask, "Would you like something to eat?"

Maria's life was abundant in every sense of the word, having experienced both suffering and joys. Her legacy is one of being a mother and a caring friend to all who needed either one or both. Her passing is profoundly impactful to all who have had the blessing of knowing her. Having been marked by her existence, we who have had the pleasure of knowing her will miss her tremendously. Holidays will never be the same without her, we all agree that we're going to miss her New Year family gatherings to have her one-of-a-kind enchiladas. She leaves us with a broken heart and an emptiness that will be difficult to fill. It comforts us to know she's now in the presence of God and is no longer in suffering and that she has now joined her parents, her son, and her brother in heaven. We are eternally grateful to God for allowing us to share this lifetime with this wonderful human being.

A viewing will be held at Peevey Funeral Home located at 12440 Rd., Houston, TX 77089 on Friday, July 7th, 2023 from 5:00- 8:00 PM and service will be held on Saturday, July 8th at 10:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8601 Almeda Genoa Rd. Houston, TX 77075 following Saturday's service.
