Mary Margaret Heard Skillern, was born on March 13th, 1944 in Uvalde, Texas to Sidney Sterling Heard of Reagan Wells and Mary Estella Steigerwald of Houston. She was the second born of five children. Margaret passed away peacefully at the age of 78 the morning of September 3rd, 2022 with her loving family by her side.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, "Sid" and Mary Heard and sister, Julie Woolf. She is survived by her daughter Lillian Estella Wirick and her husband Gary Wirick, son Raymond Sterling Skillern and his fiancé Jeanette Belan, brother Wyatt Hubbard Heard and wife Annell Heard, sisters Sydna "Nikki" Heard Kreger, Virginia "Ginny" Heard Robertson and husband Paul Robertson, brother-in-law Roger Woolf, grandson Douglas Wirick, long term caregiver John David Rowland and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Margaret grew up in the hill country in Reagan Wells, Texas. As a rancher's daughter, she and her siblings enjoyed a unique upbringing that few experience, able to roam the country side unsupervised many adventures were had and experiences gained. After graduating from Uvalde High School in 1962 and attending some courses at Southwest Texas Jr. College, she married and lived in Uvalde giving birth to her first child, Lillian in 1970. Eventually, the small family moved to Houston where her son, Raymond was born in 1971. She was a devoted mother to her children. They eventually settled in Pasadena in 1978.

During her life, she enjoyed many things. One of which was her time employed at KHCB Radio as a receptionist. She made many friends while working there and enjoyed it immensely. It was during this time that she suffered a stroke and heart attack in the Fall of 1994. She was able to recover from this and return to work but the lasting effects of this experience affected her for the rest of her life. She encountered further health issues, all of which, she took in stride and overcame. After retiring she settled into a life of relaxation. She was an avid reader, enjoying many books ranging from non-fiction historical books about Tsarist Russia to various works of fiction. Her favorite author was Lee Child and his Jack Reacher series. She took pleasure in going to museums and if any interesting exhibits came to town, she was quick to gather her children and set off to see such things as the Magna Carta and artifacts from Pompeii or Egypt. Later in life, her son would continue to take her to the museum to see any type of Egyptian exhibit and especially the Terra Cotta Warrior exhibit from China. She also was sure to take her children to Miller Outdoor Theatre every year during the month of August to enjoy Shakespeare in the Park. She was very keen to expose her children to the classics. Reading was her favorite past time but a close second was her love of crossword puzzles. These she devoured quickly and enthusiastically.

Margaret was the joy of her children and she will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. The stories she told, her smile and wit will always be cherished and remembered.

Margaret's favorite bible verse was John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish. but have everlasting life."

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Peevey Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Heard Cemetery in Reagan Wells, Texas.
