Luther DeWayne Henderson, III passed away suddenly, on January 27, 2026.

Luther was born on July 24, 1952 to L.D. Henderson, Jr. and Mable Claire George Henderson in Meridian, Mississippi.  He lived in Kemper County, Preston, Mississippi until he and his family moved to Houston, Texas in 1956.

Luther grew up primarily in the community of Spring Branch in Houston and graduated from Spring Woods Senior High School in 1970.

He then attended the University of Houston, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity graduating in 1974 with a BS in Geography.  He pursued additional accounting classes to obtain his CPA certification.  He joined his father's CPA practice, L.D. Henderson & Co, and they practiced side by side until L. D. retired. Luther continued to grow and build the business until his own retirement in 2019.

In 1973 Luther married Mary Elizabeth Gage (Betsy). They had 2 children, Olivia Anne and Luther DeWayne IV.

In 1983, Luther married Catherine McClintock and in 1987, they welcomed their son, John Wright.

Luther loved his children mightily.  He gladly and enthusiastically coached and attended all games and concerts in which they were involved.  He was very, very proud of his children.

Luther was never happier than when surrounded by his "people."  Those included not just family members but friends, of which he had many.  Luther loved people. He had an especially close relationship with his sister, Teresa's husband, Terry.  Luther had always wanted a brother and Terry was that brother.

He loved surfing, playing the guitar, writing poetry and working out.

Luther and his wife, Catherine attended Christ Presbyterian Church and enjoyed a close church life with many members.  Luther proudly served as a member of the Safety Team, making sure their church was secure during services.

He was a life-long, devout Christian.  He read and studied the Bible and continually strived to lead a biblical life.  Luther loved the Lord and expressed no fear of death.

Luther was preceded in death by his parents, L.D and Mable Claire Henderson, grandparents, DeWayne and Olivia Henderson, Bonnie George and cherished grandmother-in-law, Wilma Talley, "Grandma" to Luther.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Catherine, children Olivia Kirklin and husband John, DeWayne Henderson and John Henderson and wife Lili. Sister, Teresa Cunningham and husband Terry, niece, Claire Cunningham, sister-in-law, Carol Dodds, nephew Travis Dodds, mother-in-law, Jeana McClintock, cousins, life-long friends as well as beloved pets, Cid and Gus.

Luther loved the Lord.  Luther loved his people.  Luther loved life.  May he rest in peace until we meet again.

A memorial service will be held Friday, February 13, 2026, at 11 am at Christ Presbyterian Church, 8300 Katy Freeway, Houston 77024.
