Larry Jim Steed, 80, of Pearland, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones, family and friends.

Larry was born on November 12, 1944 in Gastonia, NC. Larry was the beloved son of Lillian Ruth Steed & Jim Coy Steed. His mom was on a train enroute to Texas from Camp Endicott, Rhode Island, where his dad had just shipped out overseas.

Larry graduated from Charles H. Milby High School in Houston (January 1963). He raised a lamb and calf in FFA. After high school, he attended Alvin Junior College.  Larry built his home in Pearland, TX in 1974 and lived there until his death.

Larry lived to serve, as he was actively involved for 40 years as a Volunteer Pearland Fireman (starting 1976), Fire Chief of Pearland Volunteer Fire Department (1978-1994), Fire Marshal for the City of Pearland and EMS Director (1988-2003). He also was the city's Safety Director, Director of Emergency Wrecker Services and Pyrotechnic Operator performing several firework display show events. He served many other communities during his tenure: Civil Defense (Nov.1962-1966), Bellaire (1970-1973), Dickinson Public Safety (2004-2007), Clear Lake Shores and Friendswood Fire Marshall (2003-2008). Earlier days he worked at Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Corporation as receiving clerk, office services supervisor (1965-1970) and also sales representative for Mustang Industrial Equipment Co. (1973-1985).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Jim Steed.  Larry is survived by his loving wife, Candy Wind of 38 years, twin sisters Linda DeOme (husband Dave) and Glenda Goff (husband Don), of Lakeway, niece Robin McKinzie, nephews, Stephen Williams, Andy Goff and Sean DeOme, great nieces and nephews and so many friends and professional acquaintances.

Larry was also actively involved as President for both the Bluebonnet Antique Tractor & Implement Club, BR171 EDGETA (he founded in October 2005) and Bluebonnet Military Motor Pool (1991, elected President 2001), participating in many static displays and parades, as he enjoyed restoring many antique tractors and vehicles to preserve the facet of our American heritage. Larry also volunteered for years and became a Life Member for both Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo. He enjoyed times with his chili cooking team in the 1970s and barbecue team in the 1980s.

Larry loved dogs, people, Pearland and old western movies. He never met a stranger and would know everything about you once introduced. He always had stories about how things were when he first bought his property in Pearland in 1973 and enjoyed sharing those.

Hobbies:  Restoring, preserving and displaying antique tractors, military vehicles, welding and fabricating, years back an avid off-road enthusiast with four wheel drive vehicles.

The best advice my mother ever gave me was: Be honest and truthful

His motto is: Never "jerry-rig" it, do it right and proper to begin with

He'd like to be remembered as: An easygoing man who dedicated his life to saving the lives and property of others and made every attempt known to man to get along peacefully with those around him.

Larry Steed was a Great, Honorable HERO.

The service honoring Larry's life will be held at  Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, Houston, TX 77089, at 2:00pm, Saturday, July 12, 2025, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
