Larry Williams Skinner passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 3, 2024. He fought a courageous battle against cancer. He was born in Jacksonville, Texas on December 31, 1946. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Patsy Stavinoha Skinner, daughter, Alana Cooper (Alec), granddaughter, Olivia Cooper, sister, Linda Miller, brother-in-law, Rick Stavinoha (Debbie), sister-in-law, Carol Stavinoha, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mavis and Lester Skinner, brother-in-law, Harold Miller, brother-in-law, Larry Stavinoha and sister-in-law, Jeannie Stavinoha Leavings.

He attended Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, Texas. Larry played on the 1964 State Basketball Championship Team. The team stayed connected and would try to get together every few years. They would discuss old stories and relive their glory days.

Larry spent his career working at Powell Industries. He was hired in 1966 and retired in 2011. He worked as a Sales Director. During his tenure, he had the opportunity to travel the globe and forge business relationships within his industry. Over the years, he remained close friends with his contacts.

Larry was passionate about all sports. Later in life, golf became his sport of choice. He was a member of Golfcrest Country Club for over 30 years. Larry hosted his own golf tournament, The Flaco Taco with friends for 37 years. The tournaments took place at different courses all over Texas. He also enjoyed traveling and playing various golf courses across the United States.

In addition, Larry thoroughly enjoyed music.  He was excellent at music trivia and appreciated all types of music. His record collection was impressive. Larry would also disc jockey for friends in his free time.

He loved his family dearly. One of his greatest accomplishments was being a dad to his daughter, Alana. He was a loving husband to his wife, Patsy for over 46 years and devoted brother to his sister, Linda. Larry also cherished his many friends.

The memorial service will be held at Peevey Funeral Home on Friday, June 14, 2024. The family will receive friends from 10:30am  until 12:00pm  the service will begin at 12:00pm. Following the service, a reception will be held at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
