Larry Dean Showalter (Poppy) of Pasadena, TX met his Lord and Savior on March 11, 2023. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Ewing and Beulah Showalter, and his precious sister, Linda Bauer, all of Erie, Kansas. Larry was born on a farm in Erie, Kansas. He went to Erie schools and attended college in Coffeyville, Kansas. He joined the Navy in 1960 and was a proud veteran of the US Navy.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Rose, daughters Sherri Showalter and Stephani Herring (Kenny), son Larry Dean Showalter II, sisters Cindi Leverenz (Jeff) and Dina Rivera of Erie, Kansas.

Larry dearly loved and enjoyed his grandchildren: Carl Schulse, Cory Schulse (Rachel), Erin Schulse Harold (Felix), Sidney Schupack, Mackenzie Showalter, Shelbi Carter (Travis), Kayla Herring, and Kendall Herring. As well as his great-grandkids: Tripp Carter, Oliver and Asher Schulse, Terra and Elias Harold, and numerous nephews and nieces.

He loved going to church and loved teaching Sunday School. He loved everyone in his classes and loved being in church until he became ill.

He enjoyed working and worked within the Pipe Fabricating, Industrial Painting, and Sandblasting business. I would tell him that he needed a hobby, and he'd say, "I have a hobby, work!" And he meant it!

In his early years, he coached T-Ball to Colt League and loved every minute. He enjoyed and loved coaching the young boys and always encouraged them to go to church. He would pick up the boys to take them to Sunday School and never had a practice on Wednesday nights so they could all attend. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but more than anything, he loved being at home with his family.

Larry will be deeply missed by his family and all those who knew him. His kindness, love, and dedication to his family, his church, and his community will always be remembered. We will miss his infectious smile, his warm hugs, and his words of wisdom. But even as we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that he lived a life full of love, faith, and purpose. A life well-lived is a life worth celebrating, and Larry's life was indeed worth celebrating. We will cherish the memories we shared with him and carry his legacy with us always.

A memorial service will be held at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, Houston, TX 77089 on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service.
