Larry "Papa" DuVall Sr, of LaPorte, was a supportive husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to everyone he met. He entered into heavenly rest April 29, 2022 at age 83.

Larry was born in Champaign, Illinois to William Harold and Iola Marie DuVall. He was the youngest of three children. After contracting rheumatic fever at age 4 and with the recommendation of his family physician, Larry and his family moved to an old cabin on the Sangamon river in Monticello, Illinois, where he lived the next 16 years of his life. Larry tells of pumping water, for his mother from a well close to the cabin, so that she could wash clothes. He tells of carrying corn cobs from the local farmers market to the cabin to use to start fires in the fireplace. As a child some of his favorite activities were throwing rocks in the river and kicking cans down the road. Hunting rabbit, bull frogs, squirrels and other wild game were some of the activities he enjoyed. Larry loved to fish, bowl and he was quite the pool shark. As an adult he absolutely loved watching television; westerns being his top choice . Larry was a handyman and "jack of all trades". He could fix anything and if he didn't know how he would figure it out by trial and error. He was blessed with a "green thumb" and could propagate and grow anything he wanted to.

Larry served his country through the U.S Army and Reserves.

He married Deanna Sue on May 20, 1963 and together they had two children.

In his young adult years, he worked as a meat cutter, owned his own construction and roofing company and worked as supervisor at a power plant. He spent his middle adult years and through to his retirement as a maintenance worker; first for an apartment complex and last for Sagemont Baptist church. After his retirement Larry enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, antique shopping and swinging on the "community" swing. Visiting with neighbors and anyone who would stop by to chat brought joy to him. Larry didn't know a stranger as he would stop anyone and strike up a conversation. Larry loved spending time with his brother in law, Robert, canning a multitude of tomatoes each summer. He found purpose in his elder years caring for his wife of 59 years and helping his son remodel his home.

Larry and Deanna were faithful members of Sagemont Church for the last 28 years.

Larry was preceded in death by his father William Harold, beloved mother Iola DuVall, Two siblings and two sons Larry E. DuVall ( survived by Carla), Eric DuVall. He is survived by his wife Deanna S.DuVall, son Kevin DuVall(Susan) of LaPorte,Texas, daughter Loree A.Elliott (Stephen) of Abilene,Texas, nine grandchildren:Desiree DuVall, Heather Elliott-Henderson(Matt),Hannah Elliott, James DuVall, William DuVall, Curtis DuVall and Christina DuVall and nine great grand children.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 3, 2022 from 3:00pm until 4:00pm followed by a celebration of Larry's life at 4:00pm at Peevey Funeral Home.
