Landon Jay Mahanay was born January 24, 1948, in Alvin, Texas to J.D. Mahanay and Nellene Estelle Burton, and passed away July 31, 2022, at age 74. He was the second born of three, which included older sister, Beverly, and younger brother, Gerry. He grew up on his grandfather's chicken ranch in Beasley, Texas, where he learned to work the farm and chase jackrabbits, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17.He married Barbara Jane "Janie" Chambers on March 21, 1969, and they were blessed with three children.

Landon was a hard-working man and a jack of all trades. He started on a plumbing truck at the age of 12 and owned multiple businesses through the years, including his own plumbing company, a dive shop, and a self-taught satellite business with his cousin, Jackie Glass, that became the number one distributor in south Texas. Landon retired as an engineering inspector for the city of Pearland in July of 2017.

On weekends, he liked racing his 1968 Road Runner and fishing from his bass boat, or bowling, shooting pool, and honkey-tonkin' at Gilley's with Janie.

When the kids were growing up, the family spent many happy summers at Waltonia Lodges in Ingram, Texas and floating on the Guadalupe and Frio Rivers.

He enjoyed entertaining his neighbors and friends at his home and having fun evenings of playing spades, dominoes, or poker; hosting shrimp boils or grilling steaks; partying on the patio; or just hanging out in the kitchen, talking into the night.

Landon was very passionate about the sports his kids played, so much so that he would be asked to leave games after "heated disagreements" with the referee … on multiple occasions.

After the kids were grown, he enjoyed taking weekend trips to west Texas and the Hill Country with Janie. Many trips were simply to get BBQ, grab some tumbleweeds, or just to get out of the city and soak up the scenery.

Landon had a mischievous sense of humor and delighted in pranking his loved ones. He loved to teasingly aggravate friends and family and scare the neighborhood kids with his scarecrow or gorilla costumes when they came trick-or-treating.

Landon is survived by his loving wife, Janie, of 53 years and their children Brandon John Mahanay, Travis Burton Mahanay, and Carrie Lynn Carr; his brother, Gerry Cagle, and Gerry's children, Casey and Candace; his late sister Beverly Chalfant's children, Lisa Norfolk and James Whisman; and his grandchildren, Conall John Mahanay, Rowen Jay Mahanay, Ava Lynn Carr, and Amayah Grace Carr.

Landon will be remembered fondly as someone who never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to anyone.He was a kind, loving man who will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 20, at 4PM at the Mahanay Residence.
