Felix Lamar "Hoss" McGown Jr. of Friendswood, Texas was born in Dallas, Texas on September 30, 1930. He passed away gallantly on July 14, 2023, from old age complications. Lamar lived a full 92 years.

Lamar, being a son of a pastor, moved around often as a child and eventually graduated from Fairfield High School in Fairfield, Texas. Upon graduation, Hoss entered the Korean War where he served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force.

After his discharge, Lamar attended the University of Houston and began a career working for Houston Lighting & Power. During his studies at U of H, Lamar met the love of his life, LaRita Thomas. For 65 years, he was a loving, devoted husband to his wife, LaRita McGown. Together, they had three sons; Douglas, Steven (Priscilla), Scott (Anita), and six granddaughters; Morgan, Aubrielle, Kelsey, Sarah, Elleanna, and Noelle.

Lamar lived life abundantly. As a faithful Christian, he attended Almeda Baptist and Sagemont Church devotedly. He established hundreds of redemptive relationships bringing joy to any gathering. Lamar was a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge of Texas, a football and baseball coach to his sons, a Sunday school teacher, an avid Houston sports fan, an outdoorsman and athlete, a patriot, and one who loved to travel the world.

Lamar is preceded in death by his father, Felix Lamar McGown Sr.; his mother, Ava "Nana" McGown, and his two sisters; Mary Davis, and Anne Miller.

Lamar was a gift to the world. He will be missed, but not gone. His humor, dedication, faithfulness, responsibility, love, tender heart, integrity, and devotion are ongoing living testaments that he CARED deeply for God, family, and others.

The service will be held at Peevey Funeral Home Wednesday, July 19, at 3:00pm, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be  held at a later date.
