On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in Houston, Texas, Kelley Lynn Hazen, beloved husband, brother, uncle, great-uncle, great-great-uncle, friend, and mentor to many, went Home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was joyfully reunited with his parents, his brother, and other dear family and friends who preceded him.

Kelley was born on September 5, 1950, in Houston, Texas, to Jack and Martha Hazen.  He grew up in the Pasadena area with his brother, Buddy, and sister, Nancy. He graduated from Pasadena High School and received his bachelor's degree from Houston Baptist University. He married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Becky, on September 14, 1973. They created a lifetime of cherished memories together and were married for fifty years.

Kelley loved playing basketball in high school and for San Jacinto Junior College. He had many fond memories of those years, but he found his true calling when he became an EMT in 1974. He returned to school to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology and Sports Medicine in 1976 and began his athletic training career at Katy High School in 1977. Kelley was totally devoted to his athletes and, especially, the many student trainers he had the privilege of training and mentoring. He retired in 2005, but quickly realized he missed what he had been doing for twenty-eight years. He formed his own business, PRN Sports Medicine Services, in July of 2005, and worked for numerous schools and universities in the area until 2016.

Kelley spent many years volunteering for Justin Sports Medicine at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. His team provided the immediate medical care needed by cowboys in the arena, and rehab or treatments they might require on an ongoing basis during the rodeo. He loved the rewards of meeting many of the rodeo and music performers and even former President George H. W. Bush and his wife, Barbara.

Everyone knows that Kelley had a passion for fishing and spending time on the water. Being assured of his salvation and knowing he would spend eternity with Jesus, he was ready to share fishing stories with Peter. However, many of Kelley's most treasured times simply involved being surrounded by family and friends. He would say that those moments and knowing Jesus are what truly matter.

Kelley is survived by his wife, Becky; sister, Nancy Schriever; his nieces and nephews Danna Shepard (David), Danielle Ashlock, Courtney Blackerby, Allison Cox (Phillip), Kyle Honnoll (Bony), Michelle Beard, Kevin Honnoll, Jonathan Story, James Story (Angela), Rebekah Montes (Raul), and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express our thanks to the medical team and entire ICU staff at Clear Lake Methodist Hospital and Harbor Hospice, and to the many faithful friends who supported us, loved us, and prayed for us, and continue to do so.

Kelley's Celebration of Life will be held at Peevey Funeral Home in Houston on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 2 pm. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
