It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Julia Garza, 87 who passed peacefully surrounded by her daughters on September 26, 2024.

Born on July 31, 1937 in Harlingen, Texas and later moved to Houston, Texas. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband, Antonio (Tony) Garza, and a devoted mother to her three daughters, Diana, Yvette and Clarissa.

She lived a fulfilling life and was a woman of faith. She had a passion for cooking and her homemade dishes were always the highlight of family gatherings. Julia Garza graduated from Texas Women's University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and was a teacher for 40 years in Pasadena Independent School District before retiring. During her career she received numerous awards and recognition for her contributions to the first bilingual program. After retirement Julia was able to dedicate her time to serve and volunteer at St. Luke's Catholic Church. Julia fulfilled her dream of visiting the birthplace of Jesus, the Holy Land in Jerusalem as well as the Vatican in Rome.

In her later years, Julia battled dementia, and she lived with her daughters, filling their homes with memories of laughter and love. As her dementia advanced, she required more specialized care and lived in a memory care home that continued to provide her love and support.

She is survived by her daughters Diana (Abel) Garcia, Yvette (Michael) Cheatwood, and Clarissa (Jason) Andrus, and a cherished grandmother to Derek (Madison) Cheatwood, Brooke Cheatwood Fadal (Tyler), Meghan Cheatwood, Alejandro Garcia, Emma Andrus, Catalina Garcia and Hayden Andrus. Julia also leaves behind great-granddaughter, Harper Cheatwood.

Julia will be remembered for her spirit of compassion, generosity, kindness, and willingness to help others in need and will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be held from 5pm until 8pm, Tuesday, October 1, 2024, with a rosary prayer at 7pm., at Peevey Funeral Home 12440 Beamer Rd. Houston, Texas 77089. The funeral mass will begin at 11am, Wednesday, October 2, 2024, with visitation 1 hour prior to the mass at St. Luke's Catholic Church 11011 Hall Rd. Houston, Texas.  The burial will be conducted by Rudy Garza Funeral Home 1702 E Harrison Ave. Harlingen, Texas on Friday, October 4th. The visitation will begin at 11am., a  graveside service will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park 26170 Tx-345 San Benito, Texas at 2pm.
