Judy Gayle Howard passed away December 21, 2023. She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on November 12, 1947, to parents David and Omega Alley. When she was 3 years old, the family moved to Houston. Judy would tell you her claim to fame was that she danced on the Larry Kane Show, quickly adding she grew up Methodist, so it was OK.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Donald Howard, son Kyle Riley (Jill) of Haleiwa, HI, granddaughters Taylor Talamantes (Panfi), Trinity Riley, and Jenna Riley, grandson Kaden Riley, and great-granddaughter Arora Talamantes. Brother Mark Alley (Lauren), niece Jayme Eubanks (Rhett), and nephew Kevin Alley (Sarah).

Judy began working at South Main Baptist Church in 1983 as receptionist and ministry assistant to music and youth. As the receptionist she was the first contact with the church for many people. She always had time for a kind word and made a positive impression. As the church grew, she transitioned to only music. When the family life center opened, she added the responsibilities of the ministry assistant to the family life minister. She retired from South Main in 2007 because of health issues.

Judy loved people. It did not matter if it was a long-time church member, a stranger coming in to ask for help, a volunteer coming to work in the Family Life Center, the checker at Wal-Mart, or a person in line with her at the grocery store. She could visit as if she had known them for years. Many times, the person would tell Judy their life story, but no matter how tragic, would leave with a smile on their face knowing someone cared. Judy always told them she would pray for them.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Sylvan Shores Health & Wellness this past year. It was a difficult time, but the care given to Judy from day one was greatly appreciated.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, January 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at South Main Baptist Church, 4300 E Sam Houston Pkwy S. Pasadena, Texas, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
