Johnnie A. Spencer III, (John) 77 of La Porte, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2023, after a long battle with dementia.

John, the second of four children was born in San Antonio on November 6, 1945.  During the first few of years of his life he lived in Bolivia where his father was serving in the Army Air Corp. He also lived in Okinawa while his father was in the service.  The family settled in Lincoln Nebraska where John graduated from Lincoln High School in June of 1964.  He enrolled in the University of Nebraska but was not able to finish college due to the Vietnam War.  John joined the Air Force in October of 1965 and was stationed in Alaska.  After his honorable discharge he settled in California for a few years and then made his way back to Texas.  He had numerous careers during his life but spent the last 20 years at Groves Industrial Supply before he retired.

He is survived by the love of his life, Jolene Carranza, who he first met in 1989 on a blind date set up by a co-worker of Jolene's.  They married in May of 1994.

John is also survived by his children, Mary Ann Burroughs (Gene) and Jacqueline Isbell (Arnold).  Grandchildren, Andrew, Devon, Dylan and Olivia.  Great grandson, Liam.  Many nephews. Sister, Myrtle Charleen Presley (Gary), Brother Gale Spencer (Mary) and brother Ronald.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie A. Spencer Jr. and Myrtle Keller.

John was the life of the party and enjoyed a good margarita.  There were many parties with good company and tequila.  He also had a fondness for Hawaiian shirts, that you can see him wearing in numerous pictures. He loved to garden, travel and spend time with family and friends.  His constant companion after he retired was his standard poodle, JoJo. JoJo traveled with us whenever possible and loved to ride in the car or be next to his daddy.  The love was mutual.

The family will receive family and friends to celebrate his life and share memories at Peevey Funeral Home, Saturday, September 2, at 2:00 pm, the service will follow at 3:00 pm.
