John William Hoff, long time resident of Houston, TX, passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2022. He grew up in North Chili, NY and attended Churchville-Chili Central School, graduating in 1959. After graduation, he began a machinist apprenticeship at Eastman Kodak Company, Rochester, NY.

John joined the United States Army in 1968 and was stationed in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Immediately following boot camp, he was promoted to sergeant and served as Information Specialist for Headquarters, 1st BCT Brigade. He also served as Drill Sergeant.

Upon discharge in 1970, he relocated to Houston, Texas. During the ensuing years, he honed his craft as a talented machinist. Eventually, he built and operated his own machine shop, Perfecto Machine Works LLC.

His interests and hobbies were many. Since 2003, he had been a member of and was the former president of the Metal Shop Club. He was passionate about his conversative politics and an avid reader of history and biographies. He also enjoyed learning banjo, violin, and played the harmonica.

Engineering was in his DNA. John enjoyed unpacking and solving a puzzle. He studied mechanics, construction, electronics, and chemistry. His hobbies were a direct reflection of his curious and learned mind. Anyone who knew John appreciated his intellect, ingenuity, and inner optimism.

John was a dedicated and loving husband to his wife of 36 years, Rebecca, who survives him. He leaves behind two daughters and a stepson, Roxanne (David) Lone of Louisville, KY, Deana Williams of Jacksonville, FL, and David (Eleanor) Starr of Seattle, WA. Their extended families include 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou (Allyn) Hetzke of North Chili, NY, and Ted (Judith) Hoff of Palo Alto, CA., and numerous nieces and nephews many married with children. John was preceded in death by his parents, Marcian and Mary Hoff.

To his many friends, our family extends sincere appreciation and gratitude for the care and help provided to John during his difficult and long struggles with knee surgeries and their subsequent recoveries. Thank you for being there to assist and encourage him.

John was strong in his faith. We will all miss him more than words can say. May he rest in peace.
