John Bernard Haneiko, 75 of Houston, Texas went home to be with the Lord on July 16th, 2023.  John was born May 18, 1948 in East Aurora, New York, and is a graduate of Notre Dame University, class of 1970.  He is preceded in death by his father John Haneiko and mother Roseann Haneiko.

John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Angela; daughter Laura Stanford (Matthew) and son Gregory Haneiko (Jennifer); grandchildren Symantha, Ellie, Mikayla, Bryce, and Benjamin; brother Richard Haneiko (Eileen); sister Jean Bonn (Doug); as well as many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.

John's faith life was as strong as his personality, he has been an active member of St. Luke's Catholic Church for over 45 years.  He retired from TransCanada in 2015 after an active working history including HL&P and Humphries and Associates, which he led seminars for hundreds of people.  Work never defined him, nor did he let it.  When his children were growing up you could find him at the Sagemont baseball fields in many capacities as his children played baseball and softball.  Baseball and seashells were John's two greatest passions.  He was a member of the Houston Conchology Society and led many talks on a variety of shells.

John loved nature and the great outdoors.  He has visited most of the National Parks in the United States and many in Canada as well.  He loved living on the edge when it came to his pictures!  You could often find him balancing on a ledge just to get "the right angle".  John was also an avid music lover and could tell you the name, artist and year a song came out in the first few beats of hearing the music.  He could talk to anyone about anything and could get people excited about the topic at the same time.

His true love was his grandchildren.  Everyone he talked to knew about his "grandcows" that Ellie and Mikayla are raising, the fitness accomplishments of Symantha, the baseball and band accomplishments of Bryce and the soccer accomplishments of his chess buddy Ben.  He was never shy to let everyone know about their academic achievements and the true pride he saw in all of them.

John was an inspiration to all he met, a peace maker, a man of God and most of all an incredibly loving husband, father, and grandfather (Papa) who will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 20th at 10:00am, with a funeral mass beginning at 11:00am.  Both will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 11011 Hall Road, Houston, TX. 77089.  Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery (1310 North Main Street, Pearland, TX. 77581)
