John Dalton Chambers, Sr. (Pawpaw) of Houston, passed away July 15, 2023. John was born August 13, 1931, in Mobile, Alabama.  He was preceded in death by his parents Charles E. Chambers and Golda Cantey Chambers, his siblings, and his grandson John D. Chambers III (Trey).

John is survived by his wife, Beverly Chambers; children, Suzanne Chambers, John Chambers, Jr. (Janice), Beverly Perello (Jose), Stephen Chambers (Sheri); grandchildren: Trey's wife Sarah, Benjamin Chambers (Corrie), Conner Chambers (Clara), Adam Chambers (Marlee), Brittany Chambers, Francis Montejano, Areli Perello, Maresa Montejano, Dafne Perello and Tirsa Perello; great grandchildren: Ryleigh, Ryder, Ronin, and Ridley, Levi and Caleb, Asher, Lilli Chambers, and Kristen Montejano.

John grew up in Mobile, Alabama, the youngest of six children. He joined the Navy where he served as an electrical engineer. While stationed at Corpus Christi, he met and married his wife, Beverly.

Upon his discharge from the Navy, John began his career with the IBM Corporation as a systems engineer. John enjoyed working for IBM, first as an employee and, later, as a contractor for over 40 years. His early career was in GSD-187 in Houston. Towards the end of his career, he worked with the IBM team at the Johnson Space Center.

After retirement, his hobbies included researching family ancestry, gardening and becoming a proficient chef for his family.  As Pawpaw, he greatly enjoyed getting to take his grandchildren to the Houston rodeo. They truly loved their Pawpaw and treasured their trips to visit him.

Faith was always a huge part of John's life. He was a member of Sagemont Church where he served as a deacon.  He enjoyed a mission trip to help build a church in Mexico and was always quick to volunteer to help friends and family.

John's home-going leaves a huge gap in our family, but we are comforted in knowing he is with the Lord, and we will see him again.
