With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dedicated husband and father, Joe, on August 30, 2021. Joe was born in Pasadena, Texas on May 20, 1965. He was the baby of his family, spoiled by his three older sisters Mary, Katie and Tina.

Joe graduated from South Houston High School where he was well known for his bad-ass skills both on the baseball field and basketball court, as well as the Trojans mascot. After high school, Joe pursued his baseball dream, finishing his college years playing catcher for the University of Houston Cougars and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution and Minor in Mathematics.

Through mutual friends, Joe met his soulmate Dawn at Mardi Gras in Galveston and their love story began. Their first date was on Joe's birthday and Dawn paid the tab, luring him in from the start. Soon after, Dawn told him she loved him (first), and they were engaged by October. Joe was so eager to marry Dawn that he proposed on the same day he bought the ring by sliding it across the table at an Olive Garden. A year later they tied the knot. From that day on, through good times and bad, Dawn and Joe were joined at the hip and an instant family was formed. Joe's oldest son Derek was happy to be their ring bearer, and soon became a proud big brother to Jordan and Dawson, completing their "party of five."

Joe devoted countless hours to his sons, coaching on the sidelines of their various sports. He cheered them on, showing unwavering support, both on and off the field. Joe always led by example. He taught his sons how to think independently, be accountable not only to themselves but others, to work hard, and give and accept grace freely. Joe's "coaching" didn't end with the boys, he seamlessly transitioned from the sidelines to taking care of his princess, Jordan. He reveled in his role as "life" coach, teacher, confidant, hero and best friend. Through numerous pedicures, school projects, face-time calls, shopping sprees, college visits and moves, he was her #1 problem-solver, instilling in her a proud sense of security, making her daddy her first true love.

Joe was well-respected and admired by all who knew him. He was a genius when it came to instrumentation and technology in the oil and gas industry. He enjoyed many successes as President and CEO of American Tube Products, Inc. for 23 years.

Joe was truly a remarkable man rich in service, family, faith and a great sense of humor. He touched many with his generosity and kindness. Joe was our gentle giant.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Temple Rae and Norris Elvin Johnson.

Joe's Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 3, 2021 at The Harbor Church in Friendswood. Visitation will begin at noon with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe's name to the Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types (F.I.R.S.T.)

Some lasting advice to all whom Joe loved…"Never take life too seriously and never take it for granted."
