Joan Patricia "Patsy" Hart Bernard was born on December 8, 1940, on the island of Barbados to parents Roy & Sylvia Hart. In 1954, Patsy moved to Trinidad where she joined her parents and other siblings. Three years later in 1957, she met Barry, the love of her life. During their union Patsy & Barry had five children, Donna, Cheryl, Althea, Charlene & Kurt. In 1974 they moved the family to St. Croix Virgin Islands. Patsy worked at Pelican Cove Hotel and Hotel On The Cay Condominium both as a housekeeper for 30 years where she retired. At her job she was always praised for the amazing and immaculate job she did.

After her retirement she enjoyed just staying at home and relaxing. In 2015, Patsy was diagnosed with early stages of dementia which she fought and dealt with for over ten years. Patsy was a quiet and loving person, the best cook in the world just like her mom; anything they touched in the kitchen was finger licking good. Patsy was the best mom to her five children and each and everyone of them would voice the same sentiment that she loved them all equally. Her kids were her greatest accomplishment. As little kids she played with us in the yard, taught all of us how to cook and keep a clean home. She was an awesome mom and it was a blessing to have her here with us for over 80 years.

Joan Bernard was preceded in death by her parents Roy & Sylvia Hart, her eldest daughter Donna Bernard Marshall, her brothers, Leroy Hart & Clyde Outram, and her granddaughter Keisha Louison.

She is survived by her devoted husband Selwyn "Barry" Bernard, her daughters Cheryl Louison, Althea Pedro (caregiver), and Charene Bernard, her son Kurt Bernard, her sister Gloria Bullen, her brothers Edwin Hart, Garfield Hart, Glenfield Hart, and Reginald Hart, her grandchildren Kenya Marshall, Sherima Pedro, Nneka Louison, Hasina Bernard Dorn, Kareem Pedro I, Rasheed Marshall, Rashad Richards, Malik Louison, Kenyan Bernard and Kaya Bernard, her great grandchildren Jermani Bernard, Anniyah Richards, Gianni Giwa, Jhavia Dorn, X'uriya Richards, Kareem Pedro II, and Rashad Richards Jr, her daughter-in-law Keonsha Bernard, her sons-in-law Keith Louison and Trevor Marshall, her sisters-in-law Shirley Holder, Irma Hart, Nelly Hart, and Brenda Hart, special friends Ermyntrude Southwell, Audrey Ramsey, and Albina Benjamin along with several other relatives and friends who will remember her strength, compassion, and everlasting love.

She will be forever missed.

A Celebration of Life for Joan Patricia "Patsy" Bernard will be held at Peevey Funeral Home, located at 12440 Beamer Road, Houston, TX 77089 on Saturday, April 12th at 10:00am, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Houston Memorial Gardens.
