Jimmy Jack Gibbs went home to be with Jesus peacefully Thursday evening September 9, 2021 at Southeast Memorial Hospital.Jimmy was surrounded by his family who were holding his hands and speaking words of love while his favorite piano hymns played softly, and the sun set beautifully outside his window.

Serving was a way of life for Jimmy. He was known for his true servant heart, always putting others before himself.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 62 years Gwen Martin Gibbs and their two children: Gary Gibbs (Rosemary) andgrandson son Bryan, TeriGibbs Farrell (John);and 4 grandchildren: Abigail FarrellAtkinson (Cooper), Jacob Farrell, Joshua Farrell, Anna Farrell and one sibling Peggy Bojar (Ed).He is reunited with his brother Billy Gibbs.

Jimmy was born in Wichita Falls, TX September 12, 1931 to Aubrey Jack and Maxie Lorene Gibbs. As a child, Jimmy loved to drawand enjoyed giving his drawings as gifts.Jimmy graduated from Milby High School in 1949.He joinedthe Air Force and served 4 years as a Lieutenant Sergeant. While stationed in Germany,he enjoyedtouring the Holy Land, traveling to many European countries,cooking, and learning to play piano.

Jimmy married the love of his life GwenMartin on July 31, 1959.The two were happily married for 62 years. Jimmy lived to care for and serve his wife and family. Jimmy and Gwen were united in all they did. They were both educators for over 30 years. They loved to do home projects together, visit Gwen's farm home in Woodville, and spoil their grandchildren.

Jimmyreceived a Bachelor of Science in Education from East Texas Baptist College, a Master of Education, a Certificate of Counseling and a Certificate of Administration from University of Houston. Jimmytaught algebra and geometry before becoming a high school counselor. He opened J. Frank Dobie High School where he was a counselor and lead counselor for25 years. DuringJimmy'seducational career heimpacted many students and teachers.Hanging in the foyer of Beverly Hills Intermediate, Thompson Intermediate, and J Frank Dobie High School were large oil paintingsthat Jimmy paintedof each of the school's mascots.

After retiring, Jimmy was a devoted grandfather (Pappaw) to his 5 grandchildren. As a grandpa, he served his children and grandchildren, visiting often and always supporting theirhopes and dreams. Jimmy hand painted beautiful wall murals on each grandchild's nursery wall. He also crocheted each grandchild a special baby blanket.He enjoyed celebrating birthdays with the grandchildren, always bringing fresh baked brownies to any gathering.

Jimmy, along with his wife Gwen, enjoyed many close friends at Sagemont Church, where he played piano for his Sunday School department for many years.

Jimmy was a jack of all trades and master of serving others. He had a passion for working with his hands and was a great painter and loved to play the piano. He loved building and repairing things at their home. He was a great cook. Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, cornbread stuffing, Texas trash snack mix, brownies and pecan pie were his specialties and fan favorites.

Always using his gifts and abilities to help others, Jimmy's servant heart, love and friendship will be missed by all.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am until 11:00am., Thursday, September 16th, at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Rd, Houston, TX77089. The celebration of Jimmy's life will begin at 11:00am. A reception will follow the service at Sagemont Church 11300 S Sam Houston Pkwy E, Houston, TX77089.
