Jesse Lewis Vawter, a devoted Christian, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on September 15, 2026, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 85. His life was marked by faith, family, a commitment to education and service, and a love for the outdoors and travel.

Jesse graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Science. He began his professional career as a schoolteacher at Sheridan School, where he shared his knowledge and helped shape the lives of his students. He later transitioned into the field of computer security in the space industry, applying his mathematical knowledge and skills to work in a highly specialized and important field.

Jesse and Laneil were among the original founding members of Sagemont Church in 1966, a meaningful part of their shared Christian faith and lasting connection to their church community.

Above all, Jesse was a man of deep Christian faith who cherished his family. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 65 years, Laneil, and a proud father to his daughter, Karla, and son, Eric. His love extended to his son-in-law, Jay, daughter-in-law, Kelli, and his grandchildren, James, Emilie, and Evan. He was also blessed with his granddaughters-in-law, Lee and Julle, and his great-grandson, Jace, who brought him great joy. Jesse is also lovingly remembered by his brother, Jack; sister, Vera; and sister-in-law, Debbie as well as the extended families.

Jesse found special happiness in spending time in the woods in Sheridan, a place that held a special meaning in his heart. He also loved to travel, enjoying the opportunity to explore new places and create lasting memories with those he loved. Whether surrounded by family, enjoying the quiet beauty of the woods, or discovering somewhere new, Jesse appreciated the blessings and simple joys of life.

Jesse will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his love and devotion to his family, and the many ways he touched the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the students he taught, the work he accomplished, and the memories shared by all who knew and loved him. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in their faith and the promise of eternal life.

A memorial service celebrating Jesse's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Sagemont Church with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and thanksgiving for a life well lived and a man dearly loved.
