Jerry Lee Pursley, 79, of La Porte, passed away on February 27, 2024. Jerry was born in Houston, Texas on May 20, 1944 to John Frank and Mary D. Pursley. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 1962 and earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from the University of Houston. Jerry was also a proud Vietnam Army veteran and a HUD retiree.

Jerry loved his family tremendously. He was an amazing husband. Jerry and his wife, Sandra, were a perfect match. He was a loving and supportive father who always encouraged his children to dream big. He absolutely loved being a part of his kids' lives. Throughout the years, he instilled values and gave them the strength to prepare them for any of life's challenges. Jerry could always be counted on to organize a family function or get distant relatives together for a good time. He was a doting grandfather, and his family was his world.

Jerry loved to be outdoors. Whether he was bird watching, grilling, swimming, or watching the beautiful Texas sunset, he enjoyed it all. He loved traveling and camping with his family. He was determined to visit as many Texas state parks as possible and could always recommend a great family vacation spot. Jerry loved to have a good laugh and could make anyone who knew him smile. Jerry was a walking encyclopedia when it came to history. He was an avid reader and could recall dates with impressive accuracy. He truly was one of a kind.

Jerry was a devout Christian and always tried to walk in Jesus' footsteps. He enjoyed going to church with his family and made many friends who shared his love for God. Jerry's faith was admirable and unflappable, and, even in the worst moments of his life, Jerry never wavered in his faith and always stood firmly in God's light.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kenneth Pursley; brother-in-law, John E. Childs; and his nephews, Gary Childs and Johnny Childs, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his daughter, Amy (and Andy) Potter; his sons, Jeremy (and Deasy) Pursley and Andrew (and Bibi) Pursley; stepson, Stephen McGee; seven grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; two sisters, Frankie (and Don) Moon and Martha Childs; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry's funeral service will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Peevey Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
