James Matthew "Matt" Atwood, 40, of Deer Park, Texas, passed away on March 28, 2026.

Matt was born on February 8, 1986, in Pasadena, Texas, to Jim and Laurie Atwood. He grew up with a warm and outgoing spirit that would become his signature throughout life—a true social butterfly who never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome.

Matt dedicated over 15 years of his career to Outback Steakhouse, where his passion, hard work, and commitment to others led him to achieve his goal of becoming Managing Partner. He took great pride in his work and in the relationships he built along the way, always striving to support his team and create a positive environment for everyone around him.

Outside of work, Matt found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved playing video games, singing karaoke, and cooking a wide variety of foods. Music was a constant in his life—whether listening to his favorite songs or playing the piano or guitar, it brought him both comfort and happiness.

Matt was known for his caring heart and selfless nature. He was always thinking of others, often putting their needs before his own, and took genuine joy in making people happy. His laughter, kindness, and ability to connect with others left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

In the final five months of his life following his accident, Matt demonstrated extraordinary bravery, strength, and determination. His resilience during that time was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him.

Matt is survived by his beloved wife, Tiffany; his parents, Jim and Laurie Atwood; his brother, Tim Atwood and wife Natalie; and his cherished nieces, Kylie, Audrey, and Lilly. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne and Claudia Atwood, and his grandmother, Doris Nelson.

Matt's celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Rd, Houston, Texas 77089.

Matt's life was one filled with love, laughter, and connection. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched. His memory will continue to inspire kindness, strength, and joy in all who knew him.
