James William "Jim" Lott, 93, passed away on April 9, 2024 in Houston, Texas.  Son of Thomas Jefferson Lott and Emma Olivia Brewer Lott, he was born November 28, 1930, in Wells, Texas. He graduated Wells High School in 1948. He bragged that he graduated in the Top 10 of his class but would then mention that there were only 11 total members.

He met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Ruth Hamilton in 1950.  Shortly after they married, Jim got a job offer from Phillips Refinery in Old Ocean, TX, where they welcomed their first child, Anita Belinda in 1951.  They moved to Houston in 1953 and bought a home in "Lottville", a neighborhood where three other family members had homes. In 1954, their daughter Teresa Beth was born.  James Kevin came along in 1959, completing their family.

Jim began working for Humble Oil (later Exxon) in 1957 and due to his exceptional rapport with people was quickly promoted to the Marketing Department where he drew the attention of supervisors for his strong ability to draw and retain good relationships with his clients.  Jim remained with Exxon for 31 years earning many accolades, promotions, and awards.

Dorothy was hired by Delta Airlines in 1968 and the traveling began!  Every chance they got, Jim and Dorothy traveled to many states and countries and went literally around the world a few times. Their favorite spot was Hawaii where they made and kept many friends. They loved traveling but Jim always looked forward to getting back home where he could have as much buttermilk as he wanted.

He retired from Exxon in 1986 but wanted to remain active so he accepted a position with H&W Petroleum where he could still market Exxon products. He remained with them a number of years until he truly retired so he and Dorothy could travel more and spend extra time with his grandboys.

Jim loved to be "on the go" and never wanted to sit still for long.  If he and Dorothy couldn't fly somewhere he would get her in the car and drive around to places they had previously lived and to visit old friends or to just see how everything had changed. Jim never met a stranger and was teased about "interviewing" almost every person he met, but he often found commonalities and made many new friends that way. Jim and Dorothy were long-time active members of their beloved Sagemont Church.

He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by his precious wife of 69 years, Dorothy, and many friends and family.  He is survived by his brother, Tommy Wayne Lott and wife Sherry Lott. His three children, sons-in-law, Rudy Wright and Dave Olson, daughter-in-law, Linda Lott and five grandsons, Jonathan Wright, Adam Lott, Joshua Lott, David Lott and Patrick Knox, and granddaughter Jennifer Knox-Trott all of whom he was extremely proud.

While we lost our beloved dad and grandfather, many have lost a true friend. He loved to laugh but more important to him was making others laugh.  He had a quick and sharp wit, a wonderful sense of humor, and was a great joke-teller.  He was generous to a fault and was always ready to help in whatever way he could.  He truly cherished his wife, his children, and grandchildren.  He will be very missed by all.

The service honoring James's life will be held Thursday, April 18th, at 10:00am with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Peevey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells, Texas.
