James Horace Hoskins (Jim) was born in Handley, TX on January 28, 1936. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on January 21, 2024, in League City, TX.

Jim was the son of Jesse and Christine Hoskins. He was the middle child, between older sister Jeannette and younger brother Phil.

In his younger years, he worked at his uncle's dairy farm, and we enjoyed hearing many of his stories. During his teen years, he worked with another uncle learning the skill of carpentry.

He attended Polytech High School in Ft Worth, where he played in the Poly High Band (trombone), and then went on to Arlington State College in Arlington.

In the spring of 1956, Jim met the love of his life, Leita Margaret Rayford, and they were married on September 7, 1956. In 1960, they had their daughter Jill, followed by their son Jess in 1965.

Jim and Margie moved to Houston from Ft Worth, where he was working for The Corps of Engineers on temporary assignment in connection with the construction of The Johnson Space Center, which led to employment at NASA. At NASA, he was a Camera Technician, where he took many trips to Sweden to be trained on the Hasselblad camera. His primary role was to instruct the astronauts on the use of this camera and provide camera support for all the missions; ranging from the Mercury program to the Shuttle program. The highlight of his career was downloading the film from the Hasselblad camera for the original moon mission. He retired from NASA in 1993 after 29 years of employment.

In addition to working for NASA, he worked part time at H&H Music. He loved playing music in the "Country Corner". He played several instruments and had a love of bluegrass, classical and gospel music. Lastly, he worked at Dorsett Brothers Concrete where he was a Management Assistant.

In his early family years, he loved taking the family on camping trips over many states in our "VW Camper". As a family, we started going to New Braunfels every Fourth of July, where the tradition has grown and thrives today. After his retirement, he continued his love of travel with annual trips to California and later New England with his wife and friends.

He was a long time member of Sagemont Church, where he played the French horn in the Orchestra.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix practically anything. His hobbies included photography, music, jewelry making, stained glass, hunting, master gardening and Captain of the Wee Tiki (our 20 ft sailboat).

His greatest accomplishment was the love, respect and care of his family. He never knew a stranger.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Christine Hoskins, and his sister Jeannette McCally and her husband James. Including other family members who have since passed.

Jim is survived by his wife Margie of 67 years, and brother Phil Hoskins and wife Susie.

Children: Jill Dorsett and husband, BJ Dorsett, and Jess Hoskins.

Grandchildren: Ashley Evans and husband, Jordan. Hilary Whitsitt and husband Mike. Savannah Cox and husband David, and Laci Dorsett. Shelbey Kyle and husband Zac, and Sydney Hoskins.

Great grandchildren: Jackson, Carter, Kaden, Cameron, Cason, Kyler, Chase, Callie and Bennett.

The service honoring his life will be held at Peevey Funeral Home, Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at 12:00pm, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
