On Sunday, February 6, 2022, James "Curtis" DuPriest went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, at the age of 80 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was a lifelong resident of Houston, a city he loved. Curtis was a great counselor, encourager, and mentor to many friends whose lives he touched.

Curtis was born on May 7, 1941 to Thurman and Queenie DuPriest in Monahans, Texas. His family moved to the outskirts of Houston, West University, in 1942. He attended Lamar High School and Texas A&M College and later served in the Air Force Reserve at Ellington AFB.

He met the love of his life, Judy, in 1964 while working in the Rio Grande Valley, and eventually caught up with her and they married in 1971. Married for over 50 years, they were a true example of love.

Curtis worked for Shell Oil Company before joining the family business, Dup's Inc., and building a successful distribution network in the petroleum equipment industry. In 1987 he was appointed to the first Texas Water Commission Advisory Board where he helped write legislation. He served as a Deputy Sergeant of Arms at the 1992 Republican National Convention in Houston. His favorite hobbies included real estate, fishing and hunting. He spent many happy weekends fishing on Chocolate Bay and hunting in west Texas.

Today we have heavy hearts because we will miss him and the support he so freely gave. We find comfort in the fact that he is in the very presence of God. If he were writing this today he would ask, "Do you know Jesus?" Curtis was a born again, evangelical Christian who loved sharing his testimony and the gospel with everyone.

He is survived by his wife, Judy DuPriest, daughter Rene Boone and husband Danny, son Ray DuPriest and wife Adriana, daughter Jamie Taylor and husband David; grandchildren Jake Boone, Raynee Conner and husband Jeff, Karsen DuPriest, Christian DuPriest, Zach Taylor and Zoe Taylor, and his cousin Bill Cowser Jr., and many nieces and nephews.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents and brother Phillip.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Curtis' name may be directed to the Houston Area Parkinson Society @ www.hapsonline.org or to Sagemont Church.

Visitation will be held from 2:00pm until 4:00pm Sunday, February 13, 2022, and the funeral service will be held at 1:00pm Monday, February 14, 2022, both held at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, Houston 77089. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.
