James Barton Harvey, lovingly known as Jim, passed away peacefully at his home on June 15, 2026, at the age of 70, after a hard-fought journey with ALS. Surrounded by those he loved most, in a sacred room filled with worship and prayer, Jim stepped into eternity and into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, the One he longed for most.

Jim was born on February 24, 1956, in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Pasadena High School and went on to attend the University of Houston, remaining a devoted Cougar fan throughout his life. A gifted salesman and entrepreneur, Jim owned and operated his own car dealership and built a reputation not only for his skill in business but for the genuine relationships he formed with everyone he met.

Jim never met a stranger. He was a master storyteller who could strike up a conversation with anyone—and often did. Whether talking with a lifelong friend or someone he had just met, Jim had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved.

He loved fishing, golf, sports, college football, baseball, and especially cheering on the Houston Astros. While Jim enjoyed many things in life, his greatest passion was Jesus Christ. Radically transformed by God's grace, Jim devoted his life to knowing, studying, and teaching God's Word. He loved sharing the Gospel, discipling others, and pointing people to the hope found in Christ. He faithfully served in children's ministry for many years, bringing Bible stories to life through unforgettable skits and lessons. He also participated in mission trips, taught Scripture with conviction and joy, and encouraged countless people in their faith journey.

Jim was a student of history. He possessed a deep curiosity about the world and a love for learning that enriched every conversation he had. Yet above all, he will be remembered for his gentle spirit, kind heart, affectionate nature, and unwavering faith. He was a pillar of strength and faithfulness for his family and a reflection of Christ's love to all who knew him.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Lori Harvey; his daughter Emily Arcangelini, son-in-law Tony Arcangelini, and granddaughter Eliana Arcangelini; his daughter Anna Reyes, son-in-law Miguel Reyes, and granddaughters Mercy Reyes and incoming baby; and his sisters, Jeanice Compton and Jennifer Penland.

Though his family grieves his absence deeply, they rejoice knowing that Jim is fully healed and in his forever home with Jesus. His legacy of faith, love, compassion, and devotion to God's Word will continue through the generations of lives he touched.
