Idris Shannon, our loving mother and grandmother went to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 31, 2025.  Born in Kirwin, Kansas on August 26, 1937, she was the first child of Leo and Fairie Gaines.  She grew up in Northwestern Kansas attending school in Agra and worked briefly in Phillipsburg.

Idris found strength and comfort in her faith in the Lord Jesus.  She attended bible college at Miltonvale Wesleyan for a brief time before her marriage to Paul Shannon and the arrival of three little girls.

The family farmed and raised cattle in Ottawa County. Idris was a master at driving wheat trucks and raising American Saddle Horses. To maintain the family farm and ranch operation, Idris worked as a bank teller at the Citizens' State Bank in Miltonvale, and later at the Bennington State Bank in Minneapolis, Kansas.

Idris was creative and artistic.  She created beautiful porcelain dolls with fashion forward gowns and hats.  She was a masterful cook and took time to teach several grandchildren how to make New York style cheese cakes.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, Leo and Fairie Gaines, husband, Paul M. Shannon, her daughter Mona Peterson, and sister Sallie Jansonius.

Survivors include sisters Connie Martin of Oklahoma and Arlis Schields of Sacramento, California, as well as, brother Al (Sheila) Gaines.  In addition, Idris is survived by her daughters Terri Constantine of Pearland, Texas, Kim (Joseph) Kearn of Wichita, Kansas, and son-in law Bruce (Kristi) Peterson of Lindsborg, Kansas.

The loves of Idris' life were her Grandchildren.  She always had time for Matthew, Nicholas, Garrett, Chandler, Sevren, Kara, Magnus, Anneka, Marika, and Alden.

While Idris will be missed for her wisdom, common sense, and drive, we are so grateful she touched and nurtured our lives.  A private family ceremony will be held in the near future to honor Idris' life and celebrate her new heavenly address.
